Young, innovative entrepreneurial companies focused on shelf-stable liquid food products encouraged to apply now.

SinnovaTek, a leading developer and integrator of advanced food processing equipment and technology, announced that applications are now open for the first cohort of the FirstWave Food Incubator (FFI).
FFI is a program that helps young, entrepreneurial companies who are focused on local (within 400 miles of Raleigh) foods to commercialize aseptic food products with the expertise of SinnovaTek. Resources will include training courses, product development, research and development and commercial trialing. Each program participant will also receive a budget for raw materials.
“We are amazed at the innovations of young entrepreneurial companies and understand that cost can be prohibitive when breaking into the aseptic food market,” explained SinnovaTek Chief Innovation Officer Amanda Vargochik. “We’re proud to offer more accessible market entry through our Food Incubator program resources.”
The FFI program is an 8-month incubation program that provides clear insight into the commercialization process for an aseptic product. The team will train entrepreneurs on the basics of thermal processing and key aspects of decision-making points to develop and commercialize aseptic shelf-stable consumer packaged goods.
Participating companies will collaborate with SinnovaTek’s team of experts at no cost to the company to formulate products, complete feasibility trials, source ingredients, select packaging, and achieve market readiness. Example products include fruit and vegetable purees, soups, sauces, smoothies, juices, beverages, plant-based milks and baby foods. At the end of the program, participants will have a product that is commercial-ready as well as finished products ready to share with investors, retailers and potential consumers.
Eligible program candidates will have a concept that can be packaged in spouted pouches that are either 3.2 oz, 4 oz or 8 oz capacity. It’s also important for candidates to have a vision that includes sustainability and/or waste reduction. Program participants must have an intent to scale their business and have an idea of a business plan. Solid or meat-containing products are not eligible for this program.
Applications are due by March 31, 2023.
Finalists will be announced in mid-April and three winners will be notified at the beginning of May 2023.
